Charlie — the founder of Bike Box Hire UK — is an Ironman triathlete. He had a bike box of his own, and rather than letting it gather dust between races, he started renting it out to other cyclists who needed one for a trip.

Word spread quickly. Demand picked up. So Charlie got another box. And then another. And another.

What started as a way to make use of one bike box quickly turned into something much bigger.

Founded in 2021, Bike Box Hire UK is now a properly established business with over 100 boxes across more than 35 hub locations throughout the United Kingdom. Our hubs are local bike shops and cycling businesses who share our passion for making cycling travel accessible to everyone.

We've also taken the business international, partnering with a servicing hub in Pollença, Mallorca — one of Europe's most popular cycling destinations. Cyclists can now hire a box from their nearest UK hub, fly out, and have their bike rebuilt, stored, cleaned and packed by our team on the ground. It's the full package.

When Charlie's brother James came aboard, he brought something the business desperately needed: a rock-solid booking system built from the ground up. James understood that the service we provide simply cannot fail. Turning up to a hub and your box not being there? That's not an inconvenience — that's a ruined trip.

That's why James painstakingly designed and built a fail-safe booking platform that manages every box, every hub, every booking, and every edge case. Real-time availability, automatic reminders, live tracking — everything working behind the scenes so that when you show up on the morning of your flight, your box is exactly where it should be.

A decent bike box costs upwards of £755. It takes up a huge amount of space. You use it a few times a year at most, and the rest of the time it sits in your garage, your hallway, or the corner of a room gathering dust.

We genuinely don't think anyone should have to own one. Renting makes so much more sense — pick up a box from a hub near you, fly with your bike, drop it back when you're home. No storage headaches. No upfront cost. No dust.

Our mission is clear. We want a hub in every town and city across the UK so that no cyclist ever has to travel far to pick up a box. We're growing rapidly, adding new partner hubs every month, and expanding our destination services to more cycling hotspots.

It takes a few minutes. First, find your nearest hub and choose your dates online — we have 36 collection hubs across the UK, so there's usually one close by. You pay securely by card (there's no deposit), and we email a confirmation with a QR code.

On your collection date, pick the box up from your local hub. Pack your bike yourself using the step-by-step photos and videos we send after booking — or add our packing service and let the hub do it for you. Fly, ride, enjoy your trip. When you're back, return the box to a hub, and add the rebuild service if you'd like the hub to build your bike back up.

The minimum hire is 7 days, cancellation is free up to 14 days before collection, and if your trip runs long you can extend your hire in a couple of taps from your account.

We hire professional Bike Box Alan hard-shell cases in two sizes. The Premium box, from £7.10 per day, is light and compact and fits most road bikes. The Triathlon Aero EasyFit box, from £11.00 per day, is roomier and fits almost every bike — TT, gravel, road, mountain bikes and anything with wider handlebars.

Every hire comes with free cancellation up to 14 days before collection, no deposit, and live box tracking so you can follow your box on a map from collection to return. Hire regularly and you'll climb our membership tiers, earning up to 25% off the daily box-hire rate over time.

On top of the box itself, you can add a packing service, a rebuild service, a London door-to-door courier, and — at our Mallorca service hub — storage, cleaning and rebuild at the destination. Everything is designed so that flying with your bike is genuinely stress-free.
