Which bike box do I need?
We hire three professional hard-shell cases. For most bikes it’s the ShokBox Pro — the most protective box we offer, with handlebars up to 55 cm staying on. The Bike Box Alan EasyFit is the familiar alternative stocked at every hub, and the Bike Box Alan Premium is the lightweight, lower-cost option for standard road bikes. Here’s how to choose, with the exact dimensions of each.
The ShokBox Pro — our most protective box
The ShokBox Pro is the box we’d put your bike in. Built from batch-moulded HDPE with four layers of 25 mm foam, a dual anti-crush system and recessed TSA combination locks, it’s the most protective case in our fleet — and one of the easiest to pack: padded bags for both wheels, a padded internal bag and a frame rug do most of the work. (The Bike Box Alans don’t come with any protective bags — your bike sits in the foam shell alone.) It takes everything from road, gravel and TT bikes to mountain bikes — handlebars up to 55 cm stay on, wider ones come off to pack — plus full carbon disc wheels, and it rolls on multi-directional castor wheels with integrated pull handles. The EasyFit box — the classic Bike Box Alan, at every hub
The EasyFit is the Bike Box Alan we’ve hired from day one, stocked at every hub, and it takes the same range of bikes — road, gravel, TT and mountain. It’s a forgiving pack: for handlebars up to 50 cm the bars stay on; wider than that they come off and lie alongside the frame. External size 133 × 94 × 50 cm. From £11.00/day.
The Premium box — the lightweight saver
The Premium is the smallest and lightest box we hire, and the cheapest — a good fit for standard road bikes when budget or carrying weight matters most. The trade-off is that it’s a tighter, more precise pack: the handlebars come off the stem and rest over the frame every time. External size 116 × 96 × 36 cm. From £7.10/day.
New to packing? Choose the ShokBox Pro
If you’ve never boxed a bike before, the ShokBox Pro is the easiest place to start: the padded wheel bags, internal bag and shaped foam hold everything in place, and for most bikes the handlebars stay on. The EasyFit is a forgiving pack too. The Premium packs smaller and lighter, but it’s a more fiddly job and the bars always come off.

FAQs
Which bike box is easiest to pack?
The ShokBox Pro — the padded wheel bags, internal bag and shaped foam do most of the work, and handlebars up to 55 cm stay on. The EasyFit is also a forgiving pack (bars stay on up to 50 cm). The Premium is lighter and more compact but a tighter pack, and the handlebars always come off.
What bike box do I need for a TT or triathlon bike?
The ShokBox Pro — it takes TT and triathlon cockpits with the bars on up to 55 cm and is the most protective box we hire. The EasyFit takes them too. The Premium doesn’t take TT bikes.
Will a mountain bike fit in a bike box?
Yes — both the ShokBox Pro and the EasyFit take mountain bikes. You’ll remove the wheels and pedals, wider flat bars come off the stem, and on some mountain bikes the front fork comes out too.
What if my handlebars are wider than 50 cm?
On the ShokBox Pro, bars up to 55 cm stay on. Wider than that — on any box — the bars come off the stem and pack alongside the frame; our packing guides cover it step by step.
What is the difference between the ShokBox Pro and the Bike Box Alan EasyFit?
They take the same bikes and both hire for £11/day. The ShokBox Pro is the higher-spec case — TSA combination locks, four layers of foam, padded wheel bags included, and handlebars stay on up to 55 cm (vs 50 cm on the EasyFit). The EasyFit is the classic Bike Box Alan, stocked at every hub.
