Airline Allowances for Bike Boxes

It's the old question with cyclist taking their bike away. Will I be allowed? What will it cost me? Well, we have your back with information found dated February 2025.
British Airways - It is free to take a bike box if you change your hold luggage with a sport equipment, just make you ask them to do this by using the free chat button at the bottom right of BAs Website link below. It is recommended to say 72hours in advance.
A few more tips BA tell their customers.
Please ensure your bike is clearly labelled with your details on the outside and inside of its cover or box, preferably fastened to the bike frame.
Clothes and other personal items must not be packed in your bike cover or box. This may cause delays during security screening or mean your bike cannot travel.
I personally have never had an issue with BA and my bike box apart from having to pay overweight charges (yes they make you stick to the 25kg limit which can be difficult sometimes). Although paying that means you get more Avios so it's a bitter sweet pill to take.
EasyJet - It costs £45 to take a bike box on a flight when booked online or £55 at the airport. I strongly recommend booking it online as this will notify ground crew on shift that day that there will be oversize baggage which normally has a different route to the aircraft.
According to EasyJets baggage help page bikes must be packed in a box or bag and has a weight limit of 32kgs. I am also told that the bike is exempt from excess baggage charges but please don't quote me on this, it really depends on who serves you on the day I find.
You can add sports equipment when booking your flight or after in manage your booking.
RyanAir - It will cost £60 if booked online or £75 booked at the airport. It must be kept below the 30kg limit otherwise you will be charged an excess baggage fee per kilo. Here is a link to their help page.
